BPN Professional Empowerment Wednesday (PEW)

every third Wednesday of the month, our Professional Empowerment Wednesday (PEW) series, held via Zoom conference call. PEW is an exclusive opportunity for BPN members to access valuable, informative presentations designed to empower blind and visually impaired individuals in their personal and professional lives.

Each month, BPN will host a distinguished business, organization, or company that provides services specifically tailored to enhance the opportunities and well-being of the blind and visually impaired community. These presentations will highlight a wide array of services aimed at fostering personal growth and professional development.

Examples of past and potential PEW presentations include, but not limited to:

• Assistive Technology for the Workplace: Demonstrations and discussions on the latest screen readers, magnifiers, refreshable braille displays, and other adaptive technologies that enhance productivity and accessibility for blind professionals.
• Navigating Career Advancement as a Blind Professional: Insights from experienced HR professionals and blind entrepreneurs on resume building, interview strategies, networking, and advocating for accommodations.
• Financial Literacy and Planning for Individuals with Disabilities: Workshops on budgeting, investment strategies, disability benefits, and long-term financial security tailored for the blind and visually impaired community.
• Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development: Resources and guidance for blind individuals interested in starting their own businesses, including funding opportunities, legal considerations, and marketing strategies.
• Adaptive Software and Tools for Specific Professions: Presentations focusing on specialized software or tools relevant to various professions, such as accessible coding environments for programmers, or voice recognition software for legal professionals.
